Keep making me laugh

Today was a great day. Days off with my love are always great, because it's so rare for us to have them in the first place. We stayed around the better part of the valley, having lunch at Sweet Butter, window shopping, and catching a movie. Can I just say, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has got to be one of the best films of 2011. I'm still reeling from how great it is, hours after seeing it. It's made me that much more obsessed with Rooney Mara. My one gripe, having to pay $15 at the Arclight since it's a holiday. We're loyalty members, but I keep forgetting to order my tickets online. The movie ended up being worth every penny-thank goodness. 

In other news, the Golden Globes were last night. And every year, during awards season-I always do a best and worst dressed post. I decided to just go with the best only because I pretty much hated the majority of last night's fashion. Huge disappointments for a lot of people-cough Mila Kunis cough. But the 5 pictured above were standouts to me:

5.) Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci-She stayed true to herself. Loved the shaggy ponytail. She's just an epic beauty who doesn't really need much to stand out. Loved the cut-outs with the little bows on her dress. Enough girliness with a huge amount of edge.
4.) Emily Blunt in Elie Saab-Wish she would've walked the red carpet. She seemed annoyed when she presented, but it didn't matter because all I could focus on was her body in that amazingly beautiful dress. The color and the detail speaks for itself. 
3.) Nicole Richie in Julien McDonald-I love that she's getting a little more glamorous. I'll always love bohemian Nicole, but I loved this side of her too. So sexy with the metallic dress and I love how she still incorporated her design with the House of Harlow clutch. And she's giving good hair!
2.) Angelina Jolie in Versace-I mean, come on! Just look at her picture. She's so regal on the red carpet, you just know you're looking at a movie star. A lot of people were making fun of the red fold on the dress, but that happens to be my favorite part. The dress would be boring otherwise.
1.) Charlize Theron in Dior Couture-My heart leapt when I saw her. She looked so angelic and ethereal, without looking schmaltzy. The tiered bow on the side was the right amount of uniqueness and fun. I haven't seen her look this good on the red carpet in awhile.

So there you have it. There are still a couple more awards-the most important being the Oscars. And I am super pumped for that. Hope you guys had a magical day!

Best and Worst

 

Sorry it took me awhile to post these. Sometimes after an awards show, I like to mull it over for a few days before I make my final decision. ;) Let's start with the worst dress first shall we?

5.) Eva Longoria in Zac Posen-I feel like we've seen this silhouette on her a thousand times. It's very typical Eva Longoria. Plus that face she always makes on the red carpet, like she's hot shit. It's annoying and unattractive.

4.) Tina Fey in L'Wren Scott-This was actually good for Tina Fey. Although, not good enough. I thought the material was bulky, and made me feel like I was in a bad western. But it's okay...for her.

3.) Michelle Williams in Valentino-Ok. Can I just say, this pains me beyond belief, because this is just awful. And I love her, and I love her style. I mean, this is the woman who's Vera Wang Oscar dress I keep on my desktop,  just to stare at for inspiration. I just hope she does better for the Oscars, if she's nominated.

2.) Jennifer Love Hewitt in Romona Keveza-Again, seen this so many times. Been there, done that. Plus it looks like she has a huge seashell on her chest. Not at all flattering.

1.) Julianne Moore in Lanvin-I think she's a brilliant actress, but she always makes the most stupid red-carpet decisions. And it's not like she has an awful figure-she's actually quite stunning. But she chooses dress with a silhouette of a paper bag. And in this case, she looks like she has a giant pink diaper stuck on her arm.

Now, onto the creme de la creme...





5.) Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf- I know a lot of people have been hating on this dress because it's very kitchy. But I can't help but love it, only because the colors exude everything she's feeling right now. I've never seen her so happy and so in love. And I think this dress sorta represents that. Plus, she's glowing. How can you possibly hate on pregnancy glow?

4.) Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace- A "roar of screams" emerged from the crowds when she showed up. I guess that's the reaction you get when you look like her. Emerald green was the color of the night, and this vintage inspired gown was the best out of all of them. It's just tailored to perfection.

3.) Scarlett Johansson in Elie Saab-She was going to be my number one, but I couldn't get over her hair. It made the whole look very Bride of Frankenstein-ish. But despite that, the gown is gorgeous and it's very vintage inspired which I am absolutely loving right now. I love the butterfly sleeves and the detailing.

2.) January Jones in Versace-She's always on my top 5, because she takes risks and constantly pulls it off. She picked this straight off the runway, and said "I want it in red." Done. I wonder what the original color was, because I can't even imagine it being anything else.

1.) Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive- I think she looks like a movie star. Which at these types of occasions, is what you wanna look like. But not like you're trying too hard. You just have to exude it naturally-and she certainly does that. The back of this dress, is truly the highlight. It must've weighed a ton. But she wears it like she was born to.

I'm a sensation...

Hi guys! I'm back...well sort of. My best friend was amazing enough, to not only let me do our laundry at her house today, but was also gracious enough to set me up internet wise, as we currently STILL do not have internet/cable at the new house.

Long story short, the move, albeit rainy-was actually pretty smooth. I love the space of the new place, and I feel like once everything is in it's place-we'll really enjoy it there. And did I mention, my closet?! Holy Toledo-it's huge! Like twice the size of our old walk-in. Perhaps when we're a little more settled, I'll do a closet video post. :)

Finally got the pics from my sister's birthday. So, those will be up sometime this week. But for now, I bring you (Sorry it's a week late)-The Best and Worst Dressed at the Golden Globes 2010...

Worst

4.) Fergie in Elie Saab-This just screams Prom to me. Thank God, her hair was able to cover up those straps, because then it would've looked cheaper than it already did. Terrible. What a waste.

3.) Chloe Sevigny in Valentino-Ok, so I know a lot of you are going to disagree with me on this one. I think the dress would be prettier if the ruffles didn't go across the shoulders like it does. She already has a very broad frame, and I think it makes her look even wider up top. I know ruffles are in this season, but this was definitely too much.

2.) Lauren Graham in Monique Lhuillier-This is barbie gone wrong. I hate this dress. The material shows everything.

1.) Tina Fey in Zac Posen-Oh Tina...I know she doesn't really try to be the best dressed, but she's certainly looked better than this. It just looks very cartoony. I don't like the color (drab) and I hate the shape. Not cute.

5.) Anna Kendrick in Marchesa-Marchesa knows how to do a winning red carpet gown. This is first time at the Globes, but I think she definitely did it right. Perhaps the glitter was a little too much, but I love love love the ruffled one shoulder. So chic!

4.) Ginnifer Goodwin in Vionnet-I was so glad to see a short, bright, dress on the red carpet. There weren't a lot. And at first I didn't like the way the dress draped around the hip. But the dress, and her whole look definitely grew on me.

3.) Diane Kruger in Christian Lacroix-Now, this is how you do pink. Pink being one of my favorite colors, I was so happy to see it presented in such a sophisticated and unique way. I love the detailing along the bust the white belt. So unexpected. But in a good way.




2.) Emily Blunt in Dolce & Gabbana- I feel like Emily Blunt can do no wrong when it comes to red carpet elegance. She just exudes it. I love the blush color of it, and the way it hugs her amazing toned body. She just looked amazing.

1.) Dianna Agron in Reem Acra-Stunning. Stunning! She wasn't even going to be on my list, because she didn't get interviewed on the red carpet, and then I saw this picture. My heart stopped. So ethereal and so goddess-like. I love every inch of it. The more I look at it, the more jealous of her I become. Haha.

Send me a redeemer...

Finally, an outfit post! This is sort of the best I could do given most of my clothes have already been packed, ready for the move on Tues. But yeah, the outfit is sort of a mish-mash of things I got for Christmas, apart from the plaid shirt which I bought myself. I wore this out last night, to see my sister in The Children's Hour. My sister was absolutely fabulous in it, and even got me crying at one point. She has a subtle realness to her acting that not a lot of girls can pull off. But I guess that's to be expected of actors in the high school level. But all in all-I was very impressed with her.

It's so weird to see the apartment in its current state. Although, we've only been living here for a year and a half, it's still our first home together, and it will forever be remembered. But it's definitely nice to be moving into a house. Especially since it's 3 blocks away from my best friend. The only unfortunate thing is-we have to stay an extra year in the valley. But it is for only a year, so I'm not too bent out of shape about it. I'm excited to make more memories at the new place!

Golden Globes are today! I don't know what my internet situation is going to be for the next couple of days, but keep on a lookout for my annual best/worst dressed list. So exciting.

I've been a sinner, I've been a saint...

The Golden Globes was an exciting awards show last night. How much did I cry and jump up and down when Kate Winslet won, not one, but two of the night's biggest categories?!!! I have been such a fan of hers for a LONG time, and even though this year might not have been her best acting achievement (I wanted her to win for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), having The Reader and Revolutionary Road to showcase her talents is quite enough. I say. And again, Slumdog Millionaire won Best Picture! I have to see this film, like now...

Now to the fun part...

As usual, with awards season, comes my Golden Globes Best and Worst Dressed List:

Worst Dressed

5.) Maggie Gyllenhaal in Lanvin. I'm fine with the shape and cut of this dress. Even the folds on the shoulder gave it a more avant-garde feel. What worried me was the print. Leopard print at an awards show is never a good thing. I admire her for being one of maybe two people who showed up with a print dress, but come on. There's taking a risk, and then there's trying too hard.






4.) Marisa Tomei in Unknown. Just the fact that I searched and searched to see who designed this frock, and could not find out, says it all. She has a gorgeous body! My God-for her age-sheesh! I would kill to look like that at 40-something. But she hid it under a white ruffled shirt, and a long black skirt. She looks like she's about to go to a Pirate party.







3.) Jennifer Lopez in Marchesa. Okay, just because you're at the Golden Globes, doesn't mean you have to dress like the statue. It was too much of everything-skin, butt, shimmer, shine, gold! It was just way too frou frou, and another example of trying too hard. Hated it.








2.) Cameron Diaz in Chanel Haute Couture. She does so well at premieres, parties, press conferences, even shopping. Bring her to an awards show, and you end up with this mess of a dress. First of all-Pink on a RED carpet, never looks good. Valentine's day is still a month a way. And...it looks so wrinkled! Why?! Why would you wear something that takes so much time and effort at place like this?






1.) Renee Zellweger in Carolina Herrera. My first thought when I saw her, was "Are her breasts exposed?!" That's never a good when you're talking about red carpet moment. The victorian look is very in right now, but matronly is not. The whole thing was probably meant to look goth-chic, but turned out to be drab-bleak! It's awful. Oh well, I never really expect much from Renee Zellweger nowadays.






Best Dressed

5.) Elizabeth Banks in J. Mendel. She looked so flawlessly romantic. I'm not really a huge fan of hers, acting or otherwise, but when I saw that dress on the red carpet-I just about sighed it was so beautiful. The hair went perfectly along with it-and it had just the right amount of romance, that didn't make you want to vomit. Lovely.







4.) Kate Beckinsale in J. Mendel. This wasn't going to be on my best dressed list. When I first saw it, I liked it, but I was extremely bothered by her hair. Kate Beckinsale has gorgeous hair-but she always puts it up in this side-part, severe updo for every awards show. I was getting so tired of it. But in the end, I couldn't deny the look of the dress on her. She looks like a Greek goddess in the pure white, with the unique accent of ruffles along the chest. It's very sophisticated. And my favorite "mermaid" style dress of the night.




3.) Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace. Only the one and only Angelina could pull this look off, and do it perfectly. The slinkiness of the dress, and the way it just falls on her lithe frame-it's to die for. Not to mention, the hair and the best accessory of all, Mr. Brad Pitt himself. It's a win-win for her, even if she didn't go home with the Best Actress statue.







2.) Kate Winslet in Yves Saint Laurent. This is an example of the Not-so-basic black. She is so sleek, sexy, and sophisticated at the same time. The velvet belt, adds just the right amount of accent to her already stunning dress, but also emphasizes her narrow waist. It's so near perfection, I was so happy for her in all senses that evening.







1.) January Jones in Versace. I noticed as I was reviewing my best dressed list last night, that I stayed pretty close to the neutrals. Not a lot of the colors really gave me the right impression, and were either too much or too little. But when I saw Jones' Versace number-my jaw dropped to the floor. It is so breathtakingly beautiful, I just about died. Old Hollywood glamour came to life in my eyes, and she reminded me so much of Grace Kelly. The color of the gown, the hair, the makeup-was just right. Plus, the dress has pockets!!! That's always a plus, in my book.
