Because I knew you...I have been changed

Last Wednesday, I got one of my Christmas presents early...

My honey surprised me with tickets to see the return of Wicked! I saw it with my family the first time it was in LA back in 2008. But I was extremely excited to see it this time around, because A. I heard the cast is way better. And B. It was Geo's first time, and it's always exciting to share something so near and dear to your heart with someone you love. 

The night was heavenly. It was my first time wearing my new rust and magenta hat, which I got super discounted at BCBG a couple days before. It was the perfect night to wear it. We had dinner at Tender Greens, which if you haven't been, you are really missing out! It's basically gourmet food in a cafeteria like setting. No muss, no fuss. 

Then we made our way to the theeeaaaaattttrrre. To perform at the Pantages one day would be a dream come true. Our seats were as perfect as can be. Right smack in the middle, in the front row of the mezzanine. I must've cried at least 3 times throughout the entire show. Definitely one of my favorites of all time. All the right moves...

Last night, one of my best friends celebrated a milestone-graduating college. 

I have to say, it's been one hell of a week for me (in a not so good way), so a night with friends, Italian food, and wine was definitely in order. I am beyond proud of her, and I can't wait to see what lies ahead. She's one of the most talented people I know, so I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that she'll be a success in anything she does.

Congrats, boo. I love you!

So, I have this obsession with leopard...

Went to my alma mater last night to see my friend Dana perform in Arabian Nights. It was such a visually stimulating show. And she, as always, was magnificent in it. I got really sentimental walking down the hallways of Nordhoff hall. I can't believe it's been almost 2 years since I graduated, and that every time I'm there, the fewer people I know. Both Dana and Siera will be graduating in the spring. So I don't see me coming back to CSUN a lot anymore, unless it's to visit Garry Lennon (my mentor, and who directed me in 2 musicals). Although, with the new theatre building opening up, it might give us an excuse to drop by from time to time.

Sorry the pictures of my outfit are kinda bleh. George thought it best to snap pictures of me in motion, whilst waiting anxiously for Dana. Me, not so much. So I promise I will get a better picture of my new leopard babies soon. They're not the most comfortable, but they're lovely and any excuse to bring leopard into my life-well, it was sort of a "gotta have" moment.

You've got the love

It never ceases to amaze me how much fun I have with my theatre boos. Especially combined with the Fairfax Flea Market and Toast-done deal. That's where we trekked on Sunday-and I was on a mission. I have been on this mission for almost 3 years now. I needed to find the most perfect leopard coat I can find, that didn't cost me an arm and a leg. I must say though, people who work at the Flea Market have become major a-holes. They're rude, and price things way too high thinking they'll get you. But oooh no, sir-I will not be shelling out $200 for your FAUX fur jacket, even if it is stunning. I did end up finding this beautiful Aztec-looking necklace, which I immediately put on because I decided it looked good with my outfit. Didn't see anything else, so we left and had brunch...actually more like linner at that point. Toast is one of my faves. It's a little cheesy with all of the actors/casting directors/agents/etc...who eat there, but their food is amazing. Richie had the brilliant idea to want cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery afterward, so we walked the two blocks over there, and in this little shop called Polkadots & Moonbeams-I FOUND MY LEOPARD COAT! In my price range, and perfect as can be. Like Kristina says, "It's like the Fashion Gods (in my head, it's Coco Chanel) shined a light" and there it was waiting for me! I immediately put it on, and haven't taken it off since. Well, you know what I mean...I wore it for the rest of the day, until I went to bed. Haha! I cannot wait to pair it with lots of things this season. All in all, a very good day indeed.

Set my soul on fire

Saturday night we gathered at Griffith Park for an evening of theatre under the stars. Seeing Shakespeare (done well) is like eating an amazing red velvet cake...slowly. It just gets better and better with each bite/scene. And my former professor/acting coach Melissa Chalsma who co-owns the Independent Shakespeare Company here in LA-also directed the show (Othello). If any of you love Shakespeare, and love to be entertained, whilst eating and drinking-you have to check this out. Next up for the month-Much Ado About Nothing. *Sigh* I miss performing. I wanted more than anything- to be up there on that stage alongside all of those talented people.

A Broadway musical themed birthday party? Uh, yes please!

My friend, the always fabulous Richie, celebrated his 23rd with uniqueness and style last night-having a broadway musical themed birthday party. As actors, we jump on any chance to dress up and play with hair and makeup. Since Richie loves all things Sondheim, Geo and I decided to come as Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett. It was so much fun to be scary! And it wasn't even Halloween! Just the process of doing the hair and makeup for both of us, was just such an experience. It reminded me of doing shows, and I missed it quite a lot. So how did we do? Were we creepy enough for ya?

As we go on...

My baby graduated magna cum laude from CSUN's school of theatre this morning. And although it rained (a complete 180 from last year's ceremony) everyone still came out to support. Including my family, who had to drive all the way from Monrovia at 6am just to make it in time for the 8am ceremony. Why they punish the theatre students by having it that early every year is beyond me. Not gonna lie...a few tears were shed for both Geo and my theatre friends who I have experienced so much with at that school. It was a very proud and rewarding moment for me. I really loved my graduation last year, even in the 100 degree heat-but you sure can't beat a short ceremony due to the prospect of a thunderstorm. 

So how does one dress for something so eventful, and yet so wet? Well, I stuck with my original plan-my amazing H&M garden collection kimono dress, that I still hadn't worn. I knew the sun would come out eventually...that or the rain would cease. So as we were waiting for the wonderful brunch that we were about to dive into at Cafe Bizou-we decided to take some pictures outside. I just had to take advantage of the now wonderful weather. Brunch at Bizou, as always, was absolutely amazing. I ordered the same thing I did last year. And you really can't beat their top-notch service and selection of desserts. The only thing missing was my bestie twin because she had to work. But AJ got to represent for the both of them. :) 

So thankful for today, and so happy for my babe. I love you, George. xoxo

Get your motor runnin'

Costume parties are always fun. Especially when they involve dressing up as mechanics. That's right...the theme for Matty's birthday party was, as a kid "what did you want to be when you grew up?" For me, I wanted to be either a teacher or an actor. Those aren't fun occupations to dress up as, so Kelsey, Julia and I dressed up as mechanics-but sexy mechanics. I think it worked out really well. I was very pleased with the party and how the costume turned out. My honey wanted to be an astronaut when he was little, so he built his helmet the night before out of old cds laying around his workshop. Pretty ingenious, huh? P.S. I love my girls.

To see what the trouble is...

These were taken at the Into the Woods cast party after Friday night's show...I'd forgotten how fun theatre gatherings are. Had waaaay too much fun that night. And my honey is sexy...;p

I just got back from seeing the final show this afternoon. I cannot even imagine what the cast is feeling right now...I experience major post-show depression after every show I do, and with musicals-everyone is pretty much together every single day for 3 months. You become a family...and it can get really emotional during that last bow. I for one, am happy to have Geo back and to celebrate his upcoming graduation. I know I say this a lot, but I couldn't be more proud. How did I get so lucky?
