There's not a thing that I would change

My first ever Beauty Post...

Photobucket

I was gonna get really into this, I mean do a whole tutorial and everything, but I didn't have time. Perhaps I will do one after the move. Right now I am knee deep in boxes, but I wanted to take a quick break to post about a couple of my beauty essentials.

As you can tell from my blog posts, I don't have one ideal regimen when it comes to makeup. Makeup to me, is about reinventing yourself in a way you can't express through words or clothing. I can go from light to dark, with just a simple shade of lipstick. And it'll all depend on my mood-or how I'm feeling that day. Makeup is essential. And anyone who tells you otherwise is kidding themselves. I mean, it won't make or break your happiness-but there's something about makeup that makes me feel just a little bit better about myself on a really crappy day.

I'm a huge fan of drugstore makeup. I have a few things that I spend quite a bit of money on like perfume and my hair products. But as far as makeup, sometimes I feel like the drugstore goodies work just as well as the designer stuff...

1.) Boots No. 7 mousse foundation in Almond-I got this at Target about 3 years ago and never looked back. I dread the day that Boots discontinues it, or goes back to Europe. I love the weightlessness of it and how smooth it looks. I can't tell you how many compliments I get on my skin every time I wear it. It's just the perfect foundation.

2.) Deborah Lippmann in Superstar-This is the polish I stalk. It's my favorite in the realm of party nails-which I don't do a lot. I usually opt for the more classic colors. But when I feel like a huge change, this is definitely my go to. It's a bit on the ridiculous side when it comes to the price ($18) but it's worth every penny, I feel.

3.) Victoria's Secret lipstick in Stilleto-I wear this lipstick a lot. Quite a lot. If you see me on the blog wearing a dark, burgundy hue, it's this. I don't think the picture is the correct shade, but this lipstick is very deep and rich. And makes me feel super vampy. And I love that it stays put...but still Geo refuses to kiss me when I have it on. ;)

4.) Victoria's Secret eyeshadow in Provocateur- It's shimmery champagne, for those days I don't want to wear a lot on my eyes, except eyeliner. I like applying it wet, with a primer to really make it shine. A lot of people are always surprised when I tell them the majority of my eyeshadows are from VS. They make the most amazing makeup. No lie.

5.) Revlon Colorstay eyeliner in Black Noir-The name says it all. It just glides on and stays put. I never feel the need to reapply, and the black is super intense. Like carbon black. I love it.

6.) Victoria's Secret eyeshadow in Between the Sheets-This one is a shimmery brown. I love mixing it with my more matte shadows, to give 'em a bit of pizazz. But it's super creamy, and I also love applying it wet-so the color becomes a little more intense. It's the perfect brown.

7.) Rimmel Hide the Blemish Concealer- My mom actually gave me her old one, that she used like twice. She didn't like it very much, but I became hooked. It's stuck with me since 2007, and I've been faithful. I only put concealer under my eyes, and no where else. And this covers up the dark circles very well.

8.) Rimmel in Stilleto Red- This shade of red is the old hollywood red I love.  It's the red I go to when I wanna feel sexy and going out with my babe. This also happens to be his favorite of all the polishes I own. It dries super fast too!

9.) NARS lipstick in Roman Holiday-The name got me at first. It's one of my favorite Audrey Hepburn movies. And then the second I applied it, I knew I had to have it. Again...super pricey for a lipstick ($25), but it sure is worth it.  It's my go-to for my light days. It's the perfect pink. A retro pink, if you will.

10.) Essie in Velvet Voyeur- This was a gift from Kristina. It beats all the OPI darks I have, in my opinion. It's super soft, and the color is the perfect blend of purple, brown, black and red. It's just my go-to dark, and I love the saying the name!

11.) Revlon Lash Fantasy in Black Noir-This was a recent addition to my makeup bag. I wanted to try something new. And boy, am I hooked! I love the fact that there's a primer, and then the mascara all in one tube. It separates all my lashes one by one, and makes them look longer than they are!

So there you have it! I hope you all enjoyed seeing what I put on my face/nails. Maybe next time I'll do a hair post! xoxo

Across the Universe

Today was a day for my parents. I miss my sister a lot, but I love hanging out with my folks from time to time as well. We met up in Pasadena, shopped, ate at Noodle World (our fave), and laughed. It was a much needed break from all the packing and stressing due to the upcoming move.
I'd like you to meet my beloved new cardigan. It reminds me of being in the desert and looking up at the stars, for some reason. I love the deep mustard/camel color of it, and the navajo print. And the way it just envelops me. It took me forever and a day to finally own it, and now I do. And I'm immensely happy. I miss my sister, she'd totally appreciate this sweater as much as I do.

For now I leave you with this cute picture of my mom, copying me. Haha!

The whole world stops and stares for awhile...

Golden Globes 2011
Best and Worst

Sorry it took me awhile to post these. Sometimes after an awards show, I like to mull it over for a few days before I make my final decision. ;) Let's start with the worst dress first shall we?

5.) Eva Longoria in Zac Posen-I feel like we've seen this silhouette on her a thousand times. It's very typical Eva Longoria. Plus that face she always makes on the red carpet, like she's hot shit. It's annoying and unattractive.

4.) Tina Fey in L'Wren Scott-This was actually good for Tina Fey. Although, not good enough. I thought the material was bulky, and made me feel like I was in a bad western. But it's okay...for her.

3.) Michelle Williams in Valentino-Ok. Can I just say, this pains me beyond belief, because this is just awful. And I love her, and I love her style. I mean, this is the woman who's Vera Wang Oscar dress I keep on my desktop,  just to stare at for inspiration. I just hope she does better for the Oscars, if she's nominated.

2.) Jennifer Love Hewitt in Romona Keveza-Again, seen this so many times. Been there, done that. Plus it looks like she has a huge seashell on her chest. Not at all flattering.

1.) Julianne Moore in Lanvin-I think she's a brilliant actress, but she always makes the most stupid red-carpet decisions. And it's not like she has an awful figure-she's actually quite stunning. But she chooses dress with a silhouette of a paper bag. And in this case, she looks like she has a giant pink diaper stuck on her arm.

Now, onto the creme de la creme...

5.) Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf- I know a lot of people have been hating on this dress because it's very kitchy. But I can't help but love it, only because the colors exude everything she's feeling right now. I've never seen her so happy and so in love. And I think this dress sorta represents that. Plus, she's glowing. How can you possibly hate on pregnancy glow?

4.) Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace- A "roar of screams" emerged from the crowds when she showed up. I guess that's the reaction you get when you look like her. Emerald green was the color of the night, and this vintage inspired gown was the best out of all of them. It's just tailored to perfection.

3.) Scarlett Johansson in Elie Saab-She was going to be my number one, but I couldn't get over her hair. It made the whole look very Bride of Frankenstein-ish. But despite that, the gown is gorgeous and it's very vintage inspired which I am absolutely loving right now. I love the butterfly sleeves and the detailing.

2.) January Jones in Versace-She's always on my top 5, because she takes risks and constantly pulls it off. She picked this straight off the runway, and said "I want it in red." Done. I wonder what the original color was, because I can't even imagine it being anything else.

1.) Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive- I think she looks like a movie star. Which at these types of occasions, is what you wanna look like. But not like you're trying too hard. You just have to exude it naturally-and she certainly does that. The back of this dress, is truly the highlight. It must've weighed a ton. But she wears it like she was born to.

Can't wait for the Oscars! xoxo

Well today was an amazing day. I feel like I say that a lot on this blog-but today really was tops. I accompanied my best friend Kate to the bride expo in Downtown this morning to peruse wedding vendors and such. Those things are always so hit and miss. I think she got a lot of great information though, and we got a couple of cute photo booth pics to take home with us. Those are always fun. And since we were in town-we thought we might as well have lunch at Bottega Louie. I absolutely love the decor and style of that place. It was basically an old bank revamped to look like a restaurant-so it has that nice mix of industrial and retro at the same time. I ordered the eggs benedict and Kate had the portobello fries. You read correctly. Deep fried mushroom goodness...I was in heaven. Speaking of heaven...I had been looking for macarons EVERYWHERE in this damned city. And we finally found some-Kate and I were freaking out in the bakery-and people were staring, but we didn't give a hoot. I love my best friend. She's pretty much my soulmate.

So we're moving in less than 15 days. Yet again. I know it shouldn't even feel like a chore anymore since we do it every year, but each year it comes-and it still brings me no joy. The only part I like is that we're moving back to the same exact place we were before, except in a completely different unit-with outdoor space for barbeques, entertainment, etc...I look at it this way- it's one step closer to owning our dream home in Pasadena. *Sigh* Hopefully (crossing my fingers) we'll be homeowners next year. What I'll really miss from our current place is my massive bedroom-sized walk in closet. Shoe library and all. I can't bear to think about it right now...I'll think about it tomorrow.
This is what I wore to run errands today. I couldn't wait to break in my new Sam Edelman's. And you know what? I never knew the amount of attention one can get from wearing 6 inch platforms. We were in line at Chipotle today, and no joke 5 women literally almost dropped their tray of food from gawking at them. :-/  I know I'm really late in the game when it comes to these babies, and at first I thought I wanted the Zoe's. But I'm really happy I went with the Zoyla's. Studs are really more my thing anyway. I'm a happy happy girl. Next dream shoes: LOUBS! Yeah, right ;)

Shopping days with Kristina is like eating red velvet cupcakes. Incredibly good and satisfying but bad for you at the same time. Haha! While I loved the time spent with her-I ended up spending way too much $ than I had anticipated. And that's because I finally bought my dream Sam Edelman Zoyla's at this little boutique in Studio City. They were half off! How could I resist, when everywhere I looked it was over $200-at least! But we had such a wonderful time, having lunch at Mexicali (I'm still dreaming about the salad I had), and taking fun shots of us on the sidewalk.  I have her to thank for all the wonderful outfit shots of me-she has quite a great eye, no? Love you, Kris.

My sister and Kate Bosworth share the same birthday: January 2nd.
Why is this important you may ask? Well, it's because Kate Bosworth and my sister are two people who inspire me on a daily basis with their style and charisma. As my sister gets older, she becomes more cooler and style savvy than I could ever dream about doing in my 25 years on earth. She's only 19, but she's stuck to her eclectic/edgy/grunge/bohemian look for as long as I could remember. I on the other hand, jump from style to style because well, I love playing around and taking chances-even if it sometimes doesn't work. I've noticed lately in my recent posts (apart from Christmas-which I must admit was truly inspired by Blair Wardorf/Black Swan) that my style has started to evolve in the more sophisticated/edgy route.  Recently, Kate Bosworth's street style has made me want to explore this route even further. I love seeing her in comfortable, shabby chic, clothes. Not always looking so put-together, but manages to still look great in the end. She's sort of become my style crush in a way. I've obsessed over countless outfits of hers in 2010, and has become a sartorial dream for me. Now, I'm not saying I'm going to go and dress like Kate Bosworth in the next year, but I have become immensely inspired by her.

So in honor of both their birthdays, I wore my gorgeous Topshop rhinestone embellished sweater (gifted to me by best friend, Kate) with my acid wash cords, and combat boots. Kate B. always seems to do the sweater/acid wash/boots combo constantly. But it was raining, and the look was so easy breezy-how I could I resist?
My sister's birthday was grand-filled with sushi and starbucks and walking in the rain. It was just a perfect perfect day. I love you seester!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Geo and I rang in the new year at home this year. We both had to work that day, and had to work the next morning. So needless to say, we were pretty pooped to go out. I apologize to anyone who invited us to their parties. Perhaps next year? Another reason I didn't want to go out, was the fact that 2 of my best friends weren't in town to celebrate with me. However, it was nice to just be at home, get all gussied up, and eat the lovely steak dinner my love prepared for us. We had a mini photo shoot, laughed whilst watching the Backstreet Boys/NKOTB perform, and clinked our champagne glasses to the prospects of greatness in the year ahead. We have every intention on making this a year to remember. And so far, I can say we were on the right path last night. I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year! Here's to all our dreams coming true. :)
